Two teachers backed by Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and Jamaat-e-Islami have been elected for the syndicate of Chittagong University from white panel. On the other hand, just one teacher backed by Awami League and leftist parties has been elected from yellow panel.
However, yellow panel’s candidates have been elected for all posts in academic council and finance committee. The voting took place on Sunday from morning till afternoon while the election results were declared in the evening by the university’s acting Registrar Dr. Kamrul Huda, according to sources.
Elections were held on Sunday for four posts of the syndicate, six posts in academic council and one post in finance committee. In the syndicate’s professor category white panel’s Prof Mozaffar Ahmed defeated yellow panel’s Prof Emdadul Haque by 26 votes.
White panel’s candidate has won in associate professor category too. In this category Dr. Mohammad Sakhawat Hossain defeated yellow panel’s Sukanta Bhattarcharya by 35 votes.
In assistant professor category, independent candidate SM Sadat Al Sajeeb defeated yellow panel’s Muhammad Ridwan Mostafa by 12 votes while in lecturer category yellow panel’s Setu Ranjan Biswas got elected without contest.
A senior teacher from yellow panel has commented on condition of anonymity that yellow panel’s candidates lost several posts in the election due to their arrogant behavior though yellow panel’s candidates have won all the posts of academic council and finance committee.
