Awami League (AL) Publicity and Publication Secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud on Sunday said the crisis involving BNP’s top leadership exposed it to a difficult state while food minister Kamrul Islam said yet “we expect them to take part in elections”.
Addressing a discussion staged by Bangabandhu Sannkskirik Jote (BSJ), Mahmud said BNP chief Khaleda Zia went to jail on graft charges while its acting chief Tarique Rahman now lived abroad to evade justice, a situation which exposed the party to a crisis.
“(But) BNP itself will have to resolve its internal crises,” he told the function organized to mark the 107th birth anniversary of Bangalee revolutionary nationalist Pritilata Waddedar at Sagar-Runi Auditorium of Dhaka Reporters’ Unity.
