UNB, Dhaka :
Hitting out at the Prime Minister for her remarks that Khaleda Zia and Tarique Rahman should be remanded in Ziaur Rahman murder case, BNP senior leader Gayeshwar Chandra Roy on Monday said the names of the killers of their party founder will be revealed if Sheikh Hasina is put on a remand.
“The names of Ziaur Rahman’s killers will be exposed if Sheikh Hasina is taken on a remand instead of Khaleda Zia or Tarique Rahman,” he said.
Gayeshwar, a BNP standing committee member, was addressing a
discussion at the Jatiya Press Club arranged by Swadhinata Forum, marking the ‘Black Day of the Newspapers’.
Earlier, on Saturday, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at a press conference on her recent China visit said, “If anyone has to be put on a remand that should be the mother (Khaleda Zia) and the son (Tarique Rahman) before starting the trial of Ziaur Rahman killing case.”
She came up with the remarks as a reporter drew her attention to the recent remarks of BNP chief Khaleda Zia and her son Tarique Rahman involving her in the Zia killing.
In a counter attack, Gayeshwar said the mystery behind the Zia’s murder will be debunked if Hasina is grilled as then President Zia had been killed 17 days after her homecoming in 1981.
Referring to the Prime Minister’s remark that BNP did not hold the trial of Zia when the party was in power, he said, “Thank you (Hasina) for reminding us about the trial. We’ll hold the trial in the future and hope you’ll cooperate with us.”
He was also critical of the lengthy press conference of the Prime Minister saying it was a press meet of an ‘insane’.
“If Sheikh Hasina’s that press conference is called the Prime Minister’s press meet, the nation’s dignity will get dented and the nation will be ashamed of,” the BNP leader lamented.
About RAB’S involvement in Narayanganj murders, Gayeshwar said still people have confidence in the Army, but the misdeeds of some RAB members are tarnishing the Army’s image.
He urged the Armed Forces authorities to pull out their members from the elite force.
