UNB, Dhaka :
BNP on Thursday strongly protested Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s comment involving its founder Ziaur Rahman in Bangabandhu’s murder, and said she did it to divert people’s attention to a different direction from the current student movement.
“The Prime Minister of this illegal regime again attacked Ziaur Rahman as she does it regularly. We would like to say no one could present any document yet regarding his involvement in (Sheikh) Mujib killing,” said party secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
Even during the trial of the Bangabandhu killing case, no witness talked about Ziaur Rahman’s involvement in it. “No document also could be presented in this regard.”
Speaking at a press conference at BNP’s Nayapaltan central office, Fakhrul said, “She talked about it to divert the student movement issue. We strongly protest and denounce it.”
The BNP leader said, they also can raise a question as to why Zia died at Chattogram Circuit House only 17 days after Sheikh Hasina had returned home from exile.
He alleged that the Prime Minister should not try to bring such issue for discussion and make efforts to turn ‘false into truth’.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday said, “Zia’s fate was inevitable (for the murder). I regret that I couldn’t bring him to trial for the (August 15) assassination” as was killed in a 1981 military coup.”
BNP standing committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy also trashed the Prime Minister’s allegation, and raised question about Sheikh Hasina’s role after the assassination of Zia.
“Ziaur Rahman was brutally killed 17 days after Sheikh Hasina’s homecoming. People could have a doubt over the matter. The main question is that she (Hasina) tried to go to India through Brahmanbaria after Ziaur Rahman’s murder and police obstructed her near the border,” he said.
