UNB, Dhaka :
In a scathing attack on Jatiya Party chairman HM Ershad for making ‘offensive’ remarks against their party chairperson Khaleda Zia, BNP on Friday branded the former military ruler as a ‘cruel Razakar’.
“Another offender has joined the illegal government’s false campaign. He is Ershad who is an expert in telling lies and champion of spreading rumours. This autocrat is making various unguarded remarks in the interest of the illegal Awami League regime,” said BNP joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.
The BNP leader came up with the remarks at a press conference at the BNP chairperson’s Gulshan office reacting to Ershad’s remarks at his party’s Suhrawardy Udyan rally on Thursday about Khaleda Zia.
Rizvi alleged that Ershad was the chairman of the tribunal the then Pakistan regime had formed to try those army officers captured for fleeing the West Pakistan and joining the Liberation War.
“The current regime is holding the trial of Razakars of the 1971… but this cruel Razakar (Ershad) is now a cohort of Sheikh Hasina,” the BNP leader said.
He also alleged that Ershad had removed many freedom-fighter army officers from their service when he was the army chief. “Not only that he was also the mastermind of the murders of late president Ziaur Rahman and Chittagong cantonment GOC Maj Gen MA Monjur.”
Rizvi claimed that Ershad had captured power at gunpoint by ousting an elected president Abdus Sattar. “This person is now spreading lies. We condemn and protest yesterday’s remarks of this political rogue and traitor.”
The Jatiya Party chief at the rally of his party accused Khaleda of initiating the politics of vengeance in the country and claimed that she is now suffering due to the misdeeds she had committed during her stay in office.
