BSS, Dhaka :
Relief and Disaster Management Minister Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya (Bir Bikram) said BNP has no strength and courage to launch any movement.
“Awami League is a banyan tree, not a banana tree that will be uprooted in a push. You (BNP) won’t be able to create barriers in the development activities of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina by hatching conspiracy,” he said.
Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya, also general secretary of Dhaka City Awami League (AL), said this on Friday while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion in the city.
Bangladesh Deshratna Parishad organised the discussion on “Diplomatic bid of BNP-Jamaat: impediments to Bangladesh’s development” at Shilpakala Academy at Segunbagicha in the capital.
President of the Parishad Chitta Ranjan Das chaired the discussion, also addressed, among others, by Prime Minister’s press adviser Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury, Awami League office secretary Dr Abdus Sobhan Golap and Dhaka City AL vice-president Mukul Chowdhury.
In a rebuttal to BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia’s threat to launch movement after holy Eid-ul-Fitr, the AL leader said, “It’s hardly possible from her part to launch any movement as nobody is with her so-called movement. Only your shadow is with you now.”
Maya said, “There was a party called Muslim League in the past and there is no party in the name of Muslim League now. Likewise, there will be no party in the name of BNP after Eid. The country is now under the influence of Satan. The Satan must be eliminated from the country after Eid.”
Turning to the criticism on the proposed national budget, the AL leader said, “Those who take part in talk shows on different television channels at midnight with big cups of tea used to term the budget as over ambitious. But, people of the country didn’t say a single word on price hike of essentials after announcement of the budget. They remain blind to the matter. They even could not see Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina brought assistance for Bangladesh during her recent visit to Japan and China?” Criticising BNP senior vice-chairman Tarique Rahman’s recent remarks, Maya Chowdhury, also a valiant freedom fighter, said, “What he knows about the country’s glorious history who hadn’t witnessed the war of liberation.
