Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Saturday said the people witnessed during the coronavirus crisis that BNP’s political liberalism, commitment and responsibility towards the people have reached zero level.
“BNP has been successful in keeping safe distance without standing beside people during coronavirus and cyclone-induced crisis,” he told a discussion at Bangabandhu Avenue marking Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina’s Homecoming Day.
From his official residence, Quader virtually joined the discussion arranged by Tanti League.
Tanti League President Engineer Md Shawkat Ali chaired the discussion while AL Publicity and Publications Secretary Dr Abdus Sobhan Golap and Tanti League General Secretary Khagendra Chandra Debnath addressed it, among others.
However, the AL General Secretary extended thanks to BNP for presenting a 24-point proposal for the upcoming budget amid their practice of negative politics.
“But we didn’t find a single line on the government’s success or achievement in the BNP leaders’ opinions,” he said.
Quader said BNP couldn’t come out from their cycle of narrowness.
Quader said Sheikh Hasina’s government had to face the impacts of the coronavirus pandemic in implementing the budget of the last fiscal like other countries.
The government kept running the wheels of the economy by making coordination between life and living very efficiently, he said, adding that export-import trade or production system has also been kept running and vibrant.
The minister said the government has done the challenging task of keeping the wheels of revenue collection running side by side increasing domestic production very efficiently.
Mentioning that per capita income has increased to $2227 during that period, he said the government made all-out efforts in containing coronavirus spread, providing treatment and procuring vaccines, increased the circumference of social safety net programme while the country saw positive rise of growth of remittance inflow and swell of foreign reserve.
But BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir never praises the country’s economic capability in different indexes, he said.
Mentioning that Mirza Fakhrul talked about economic contraction, he said economic contraction didn’t happen in the country rather their soul has been narrowed long ago.
Quader hoped that the upcoming budget will make a unique coordination of multifaceted plans to take ahead the economy like the previous fiscal years fulfilling the aspirations of the people side by side facing the crisis.
