Dhaka Bar Assoc: BNP gets treasurer post

BNP-Jamaat backed Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Oikya-Parishad’s Blue penal also got the Treasurer post of Dhaka Bar Association, as announced on Saturday at 10.15 pm.
Earlier, on Friday the result of 24 posts, leaving the position of the Treasurer was declared as Md Moqbul Hossain, candidate of Awami League backed White penal appealed to the Election Commission for 2014-15 session of Dhaka Bar Association seeking recounting of votes for the position, 30 minutes before the declaration of the result of the biggest bar of the country.
Following the White penal candidate’s appeal, the re-counting of votes for the position of Treasurer was concluded and the result was announced on Saturday night. Blue penal candidate Md Shamsuzzaman got 3,790 votes while his rival Moqbul fell back in the race for 17 votes.
The Blue penal swept the election bagging 19 of 25 posts including President and Secretary while the White penal secured only six posts of member.
Chief Election Commissioner of the bar, Advocate Abdus Sabur first announced the result on Friday noon.
 Besides nine members and the Treasurer, the nine other leaders of Dhaka Bar elected from Blue penal are: President Md Mohsin Miah, Senior Vice-President Rezaul Karim Nizam, Vice President Jahir Rayhan, General Secretary Mosleh Uddin Jasim, Senior Assistant Secretary Abu Yusuf Sarker, Assistant General Secretary Arifur Rahman Ranju, Library Secretary Ahmed Ullah Aman, Cultural Secretary Rafisa Alam Lucky and Office Secretary Shaheed Gazi.
The two-day election of Dhaka Bar Association began on Wednesday and ended on Thursday at 5 pm. Of the 14,310 lawyer voters 8,175 cast their votes in the election.
