The BNP got permission from Dhaka Metropolitan Police on Wednesday to hold a rally in front of Party’s Nayapalton central office on September 1 (Saturday) marking its 40th founding anniversary.
“Our public meeting will be started at 2:00pm on Saturday to mark the party’s 40th founding
anniversary, as DMP Commissioner has given us verbal permission today,” said BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi at an impromptu press briefing at the party’s central office at 4:00pm.
Earlier, on the day, a three-member BNP delegation including BNP Chairperson’s Advisory Council Member Abul Khair Bhuiyan, Publicity Affairs Secretary Shahiduddin Chowdhury Annie and Assistant Organising Secretary Abdus Salam Azad met DMP Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia at the DMP headquarters, then the DMP Commissioner gave them the verbal permission, Rizvi added.
Replying to a query, Rizvi said, we cannot say whether it is the flexible attitude of the government or not. But, we have seen that mass arrest of our party men across the country is continuing.
BNP leaders Abul Khair Bhuiyan, Shahiduddin Chowdhury Annie, Syed Emran Saleh Prince and Kazi Abul Bashar, among others, were present at the press briefing.
