BNP forms human chain for Khaleda`s release

Fakhrul slams Shahriar for comment on Tarique

The BNP on Wednesday formed a human chain in the city and across the country as per its seven-day programme, demanding its Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia’s release from jail.
Arguing Khaleda Zia’s quick release from jail, the party Secretary General Mirza Fakhurl Islam Alamgir said that the former Prime Minister has been kept in a serious unhealthy condition in an abandoned building of the former central jail.
Mirza Alamgir also said the State Minister for Foreign Affairs himself fell into a pit while trying to create debate over party acting chairman Tarique Rahman’s citizenship.
“The State Minister passed strange, baseless, and unlawful comments about Tarique Rahman’s nationality. No body gives up his nationality while seeking asylum,” said the BNP leader demanding immediate stoppage of the propaganda.
He also called for united movement demanding unconditional release of the party chairperson.
BNP Standing Committee Member Dr. Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain said, the countrymen are waiting to reject the government by exercising voting power.
Standing Committee Member Mirza Abbas asked the party men to be united and to increase party’s strength.
“Be united and go to the people in your own areas, the government will be ousted soon,” he said.
Numbers of leaders and activists of the party joined the human chain around 10:15am in front of the Party’s Naya Paltan Central Office.
The party men were holding banners, festoons and placard and chanting different slogans demanding their party chief’s release from jail.
A large contingent of law enforcers was deployed to guard law and order situation in the area. The programme ended peacefully around 11:50am.
Standing Committee Member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Vice-Chairman Abdullah Al Noman, Abdul Mannan, Ahmed Azam Khan, senior leaders Jainul Abdin Faruk, Aman Ullah Aman, Abul Khair Bhuiyan, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal, Khairul Kabir Khokon, Abu Naser Muhammad Rahmatullah, Shirin Sultana and Rafik Sikdar, among others, also were present.
The party on Tuesday announced to form the human chain in front of National Press Club. However, it changed the decision later.
The BNP observed different peaceful programmes, including leaflet distribution, countrywide demonstration, human-chain formation, sit-in, token hunger-strike, protest procession in different phases after Khaleda Zia jailed on February 8 in a graft case.
