The new convening committee of the Dhaka city unit BNP has not taken any effective move to form the Thana and Ward committees till now, as the leadership of the committee is facing troubles to form the committees.
Some leaders of Thana and Ward committees alleged that the city convening committee is moving towards forming ‘pocket committees’ in the Thana and Wards level in some cases. On the other hand, they are inactive to strengthen the party through holding council at the thana and ward level.
Leaders and activists of Mohammadpur and Adabar Thana units on Sunday insulted Joint Convener of the city unit convening committee Salahuddin Ahmed at his office in Motijheel and vandalised the office, as he, what the leaders and workers alleged, wanted to form pocket committees in the units.
Salahuddin was assigned to form committees of the units. As part of his duty, he called the meeting at his Motijheel office. It was alleged that the letters of the meeting were distributed only to the leaders and workers, who are known as the followers of Juba Dal president Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal. However, the other leaders and workers of the units attended the meeting though they were not invited.
At the beginning of the meeting, they became angry on Salahuddin and Alal for not inviting them. Alal also attended the meeting. At one stage, the angry leaders and activists insulted Salahuddin and vandalied his office. They also assaulted Alal’s personal secretary Jahangir and driver Kalam, as the duo distributed the letters.
