Staff Reporter, Rangpur :
BNP Vice Chairman and Convener, Election Management Committee, Iqbal Hasan Tuku has doubted free, fair and neutral poll in Rangpur City Corporation [RCC].
He said, BNP will stay in the election till the last moment to see what the government does. The party took RCC poll as a challenge.
He was addressing a press conference at BNP office, Grand hotel intersection of the city on Sunday noon.
He said, the government has not yet created level playing field for the election. The mayoral candidates of the ruling party and its alliance are repeatedly violating the electoral code. But the Election Commission is not taking any action. But our candidate is being harassed.
We are selecting our polling agents for different vote centers. The ruling party men were intimidating our polling agents going their houses.
The government since the beginning wanted that BNP should not take part in RCC poll. But we decided to take part in the election. The party nominated Kawsar Jaman Babla as mayoral candidate. The government tried to expel him branding as loan defaulter. The Honorable High Court foiled the attempt.
The ruling party was trying to make the goal in an open field taking part alone in the election. No election was fair during the tenure of the government. They were trying to manipulate the election. BNP wanted to take part in the poll despite of all odd.
He urged the Election Commission to hold a free, fair and impartial poll.
