The BNP on Thursday distributed leaflets nationwide demanding unconditional release of its Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia from jail.
The party once again on Thursday announced to hold a public rally at the Suhrawardy Udyan in the city on March 11 demanding the party chief’s release from jail.
Apart from these, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir criticized Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for remark that the BNP had taken corruption as its policy.
He advised the ruling Awami League to see its own face on the mirror before labeling BNP as corrupt party. He said it while addressing a discussion meeting at the Jatiya Press Club reacting to the PM’s Wednesday’s statement in the Parliament.
BNP Senior Joint-Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi launched the leaflets distributing programme among pedestrians in front of party’s Nayapaltan central office around 10am on the day.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir could not inaugurate it as his mother fell sick suddenly.
He, however, attended the programme later and distributed leaflets among the people in front of the party central office at Nayapaltan. Rizvi said their party leaders were distributing leaflets all over the country, including different points in the capital, demanding the party Chairperson’s release.
The BNP leader said, they will continue their peaceful movement to ensure the government’s fall.
Huge law enforcers were deployed in the Nayapaltan area following the BNP’s leaflet distribution programme.
BNP Standing Committee Members Mirza Abbas led the leaflets distributing programme near the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque, Dr. Abdul Moin Khan at Motijheel, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury at New Market areas, Vice-Chairman Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain at Mouchak-Malibagh, Barkatullah Bulu in Jurain area, Ahmed Azam Khan in Dholaikhal area and Shawkat Mahmud in Hatirpool area.
The leaflet headline, “Several corruption cases against Sheikh Hasina withdrawn versus Khaleda Zia’s jail in baseless case.”
There were nine points call from Begum Khaleda Zia asking the people to continue peaceful movement.
Ruhul Kabir Rizvi in a news briefing at the party’s central office announced they had sent letters to Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner and Chief Engineer of Public Works Department seeking permission to hold the public rally at the Suhrawardy Udyan on March 11.
He said the authorities concerned did not give them permission for holding a rally at the same venue on February 22 showing excuse of February 21 and book fair.
BNP announced black flag demonstration in Dhaka city on February 24 for not giving the permission for holding the rally.The party however, held countrywide demonstration on February 26 to protest police action on black flag demonstration.
Rizvi said also Khulna BNP set date to hold a rally in the divisional city on March 10.
