Staff Reporter :Bangladesh Nationalist Party [BNP] on Tuesday expressed grave concern over the police statement that Nagorik Oikya convener Mahmudur Rahman Manna was not arrested though his family members claimed that Manna was picked up by plainclothes men from a relative’s residence at Banani in the city.”We are surprised at the statement of police that they did not arrest Manna after he was picked up by plainclothes police around 30:30am yesterday (Monday) without any warrant of arrest,” said BNP joint secretary general Salahuddin Ahmed in a statement issued from a hideout.He also alleged the government has a hand in ‘disappearance’ of Mahmudur Rahman Manna, and said that the way Manna was picked up proves that there is no guaranty of a citizen to enjoy their fundamental and human rights and right to survive.The BNP leader condemned and protested such incidents of violation of constitutional, fundamental and human rights and demanded safe return of Manna to his family members immediately.He also demanded taking lawful action against those were involved in it and called upon the government to refrain from such heinous incidents in future. “We strongly condemn and protest the government’s such unconstitutional acts that extremely violated the basic and human rights,” he said. The BNP leader also urged the government to refrain from indulging in such hatred activities in the future. “We demand to take due legal steps against those responsible for it,” he added.
