Staff Reporter :
The BNP on Thursday demanded rescheduling of election in eight constituencies where the party has no candidates due to court’s order canceling candidature. The party leaders, as such, proposed to the Election Commission to consider those as BNP candidates whose candidacy were once withdrawn.
“The EC declared our candidates legality and then we withdrew the substitute ones. Now as the court cancelled our candidates’ candidacy, we cannot contest in those constituencies. It happened due to the EC’s wrong doing.
Therefore, we are asking the EC to stop the voting in those seats where we have not our candidates right now, or to accept candidacies of those candidatures who were once withdrawn,” said BNP Standing Committee Member Nazrul Islam Khan in a briefing with the journalists after meeting with Chief Election Commissioner (CEC).
The BNP leader said that the CEC told them that they would reply after discussion with the commissioners.
The constituencies which became vacant of BNP candidates by courts are Jamalpur-4, Bogura-3, Brahmanbaria-4, Rangpur-1, Mymensingh-8, Jhenaidah-2, Joypurhat-1 and Rajshahi-6.
