UNB, Dhaka :
BNP on Friday urged the government to immediately stand beside the flood victims of the greater Chittagong
with emergency supplies. In a statement, the party said, “Over 20,000 people have been marooned in Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar and Chittagong Hill Tracts due to flashflood triggered by heavy rains.”
It said, most upazilas of Bandarban, Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar and Khagrachhari have already become disconnected from district towns as the roads and highways in the areas were submerged with floodwater.
Mentioning that power supply in most flood-hit areas also remained disrupted, the party said, “We’re concerned as we’ve come to know that the flood-affected people in the areas are badly suffering for lack of food, pure water and shelter.”
“We call upon the government to take necessary steps to stand beside the flood-hit
people of the greater Chittagong. It’s regrettable that no relief operation from the government side is yet visible in the areas,” the statement reads. The party also demanded the government immediately supply relief and pure-drinking water to the flood victims and conduct operations to rescue them. It claimed that BNP has started distributing relief materials in the flood-affected areas. The party urged all, including her party’s leaders and activists at all levels, to come forward in aid of the flood victims to overcome the crisis.
