The BNP on Wednesday demanded judicial probe into the death of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal leader Zakir Hossain Milon in custody. “Zakir Hossain Milon was remanded for three days. But he died in custody. We condemn and demand judicial probe into the incident,” BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said it while addressing a press briefing at Nayapaltan central office.
He also demanded exemplary punishment to those who were behind torture of Zakir. JCD Vice-President of Dhaka city unit (North) Zakir died in police custody on Monday. He was remanded for three days before his death.
Earlier, Mirza Fakhrul said in a statement, Milon was subjected to the government’s political vengeance. The government wants to continue its despotic rule by eliminating the existence of the opposition parties.
He said that police arrested Milon, who also was the Acting President of Tejgaon thana unit of JCD, on March 6.
Mirza Fakhrul said, “Zakir was seriously injured in the remand and met a tragic end of his life in jail on Monday morning. He was not given any kind of treatment there.”
