The BNP on Wednesday asked the government to hold fresh national polls within six months under a neutral government, cancelling the 11th Parliamentary election results.
“Dissolve the 11th Parliament and hold a fresh election for forming a new government,” said BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir addressing the government in a human chain programme organised in front of the National Press club to protest the starting of the first session of the 11th Parliament on the day.
Mirza Fakhrul also urged all the political parties to get united for creating pressure on the government through movement to hold polls again.
“Awami league established a one-party rule in 1975. In the same style, they have now formed a government and parliament without people’s mandate by snatching people’s all the basic rights destroying democratic institutions using state machinery and resorting to terrorism to restore its one-party rule,” said BNP Secretary General.
Senior leaders of the party also called for holding a fresh Parliament polls in free, fair and unbiased manner within six months.
BNP Standing Committee Member Dr. Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain demanded fresh election under a neutral government soon.
BNP Standing Committee Member Barrister Moudud Ahmed said only five to seven per cent voters were able to go to the polling centres on the December 30 Parliament polls.
Barrister Moudud Ahmed, former Law Minister, said they would publish a white paper on the widespread vote fraudulence in the polls.Demanding government’s resignation, he called for holding a fresh election within six months.
Leaders and activists and supporters of the party formed the human chain around 10:30am 30 minutes before the scheduled time.
The leaders and activists were seen chanting different slogans demanding fresh election and release of their chairperson Khaleda Zia from jail.
Meanwhile, a huge number of law enforcers were deployed around the venue to fend off any trouble.
Yesterday, BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi announced the programme at a press conference at BNP’s Nayapaltan central office.
