BNP conspiring to foil polls: Minister

Mohammed Nasim, spokesman of the Awami League-led 14-party alliance, on Tuesday said BNP is hatching conspiracy both at national and international levels to foil the next general elections.
“BNP never did anything except hatching conspiracy . . . It is doing the same in London right now only to foil the next elections,” he told journalists after a meeting of the alliance at the AL President Sheikh Hasina’s Dhanmondi political office here.
Nasim, AL Presidium Member and Health and Family Welfare Minister, alleged that BNP was active in the field to deter various development activities of the incumbent government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
About the Election Commission’s roadmap centering the next parliamentary elections, he said, “We have faith in this independent Election Commission and it will be able to hold the next polls in a free, fair and credible manner.”
Nasim said the meeting of the alliance had decided to distribute relief goods in the flood-affected areas of Chittagong, Feni and northern region of the country.
Earlier, the alliance meeting was held with Ganotantrik Party General Secretary Shahadot Hossain in the chair.
Samyabadi Dal General Secretary Dilip Barua, Jatiya Party (JP) Secretary General Sheikh Shahidul lslam, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) General Secretary Shirin Akhter, AL Organizing Secretaries Ahmed Hossain and Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, Relief Secretary Sujit Roy Nandi, party’s Science and Technology Affairs Secretary Abdus Sabur, Deputy Office Secretary Biplob Barua and Bangladesh Tariqat Federation General Secretary MA Awal were, among others, present in the meeting.
