The BNP on Tuesday strongly condemned the reported gold scam in the central bank’s vault.
“A strange incident has reportedly taken place in Bangladesh Bank’s vault where there was 963 kg of gold. The gold bars have been turned into mixed metals while the 22 carat gold into 18 carat one in the vault,” said BNP Standing Committee Member Dr. Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain while addressing a discussion at the National Press Club.
He added, “It is a very disgusting incident.
It is another sign of plundering by the government.”
Dr. Mosharraf said, huge money was also stolen from the central bank’s reserve earlier. We strongly condemn it.
Bangladesh Youth Forum arranged the programme on the role of the current Election Commission.
The BNP leader said they now want to see what steps the government takes against those involved in the incident.
“The government will have to be accountable to people someday if it tries to hush up the gold scam incident like the reserve heist one,” he said.
Dr. Mosharraf accused the government of hatching conspiracy to hold the next general polls except the BNP and its chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia.
He called upon the people of all walks of life to get united to foil the government’s all evil designs and ensure its fall through a tough agitation.
“After forging a national unity, we will wage a strong movement together with the people of our country to oust the autocratic regime,” he said. Dr. Mosharraf said the current Election Commission helped the vote riggers, instead of standing beside voters in the recent city corporation polls.
“The people do not believe that this EC can hold a free, fair and acceptable polls. It has no capability to hold the national election in a fair manner,” he said.
The BNP leader urged his party men to take proper preparations to wage a strong movement to compel the government to hold the next general polls under a neutral government.
Agriculturist Mehedi Hasan Palash, adviser of the organization, presided over the programme.
BNP Vice-Chairman and Journalist Leader Shawkat Mahmud, former MP Ahsan Habib Linkon, BNP leader Abu Naser Muhammad Rahmatullah and Saidur Rahman, president of the organization spoke on the occasion, among others.
