The BNP on Sunday condemned the attack on the vehicle of US ambassador to Bangladesh Marcia Bloom Bernicat.
He accused the ruling party men of engineering the attack.
“We demand that the government would immediately identify Awami League cadres who carried out the attack and to award exemplary punishment to them. We also strongly protest and denounce the attack,” said Mirza Fakhrul in a press conference at the party’s Nayapaltan central office.
He said, Bernicat is the representative of the USA.
The attack on the US ambassador is as if attack on that country. The BNP leader regretted that the incident would badly harm Bangladesh image abroad.
Mirza Fakhrul at the same time rejected allegation against the party’s Standing Committee Member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury’s wrongdoing about the present students’ road safety movement.
BNP Secretary General said “There is no wrong in the telephone conversation. Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury did not do wrong in his telephone conversation with a relative of him. He called people to take part in the protests and the entire nation feels for the protesters. What is wrong with urging someone to take part in the protest? But it is logical to ask the people to do that as the movement is appropriate.”
