BNP has called hartal (shutdown) in seven upazilas of Khulna, Barisal and Chuadanga protesting what it described “vote rigging” by ruling Awami League men during the fourth phase upazila elections on Sunday.The BNP will enforce a daylong hartal in five upazilas in Khulna,one upazila in Chuadanga while half day hartal in another upazila of Barisal today (Monday). The district BNP of Khulna called daylong hartal in Batiaghat, Rupsha, Terokhada, Dakop and Phultala upazila protesting “vote rigging”. The party called hartal in Agoiljhara upazila in Barisal in protest against “vote rigging” at all the 38 centres in the upazila by the ruling party men.Afzal Hossain, BNP-backed chairman candidate said it at a press conference after boycotting the polls, reports said. BNP-led 19-party alliance called daylong hartal in Jibonnagar upazila in Chuadanga demanding reelection of the upazila polls.Saidur Rahman Dhondu, BNP -backed chairman candidate, announced the hartal at a press conference at his resince in the town on Sunday afternoon.Demanding cancellation of the voting he alleged that ruling party men stuffed ballot boxes at Condorpur Govt Primary School and also looted election materials in the morning hours of the day.
