Poor response experienced in the port city to the BNP called dawn to dusk hartal across the country elsewhere in greater Chittagong yesterday.
BNP-led alliance called daylong hartal yesterday protesting the attack on Advisor to BNP chairperson and former state minister Reaz Rahman .
Tough security arrangement deployed in city and in the district areas to face the violence and anarchy of the oppositions . Beside the police forces, BGB forces have been sdeployed to resist any sorts of violence.
No newsof any kinds of anarchy, violence yet to be reported till writing of this report. BNP led alliance did not observe any action programs during hartal period , police sources said. Eye witnesses sources said the city office of BNP at Nasimon Bhaban remained under lock and key at about 12 noon and no senior leaders were seen in any programs in the city . Rickshaws, auto-rickshaws, battery run rickshaws and commuter service buses were seen plying in main city roads except transport trucks,passenger coach and personal vehicles .
All inter-district and intercity passenger buses went off roads during hartal hours.Rail communications remained as usual as per schedule and did not hamper any kind of obstruction in rail service.
International and domestic flights of different airlines from Chittagong International airport operated as per schedule, airport manager sources said. Port activities in inner and outer berth of Chittagong port operated in normal way but consignment did not delivered from the port shed, a port users sources said.
