UNB, Dhaka :BNP on Tuesday aired apprehension that there might be an evil design of the government to malign the party by involving it with the recent murders of two foreign nationals. In a statement, party spokesman Asaduzzaman Ripon urged the government to take steps so that the investigations into the two foreigners’ murders are not conducted with an ill intention to harass its political opponents.”In the wake of repeated allegations of hatching conspiracies sitting abroad brought by different quarters from the government pointing at BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia, we fear there might an evil plot to tarnish the opposition’s image by implicating it in the very recent shocking killings of two foreigners,” he said.Italian national Cesare Tavella was gunned down at Dhaka’s diplomatic zone on September 28 while Japanese Kunio Hoshi five days later in Rangpur.Ripon said their party has been demanding the government unearth the motive and mysteries behind the murders of the two foreigners through proper and fair investigations. “We’ve also been demanding exemplary punishment to those involved in such heinous and dreadful incidents. Our party wants the government to take steps to restore the country’s image dented through the killing of the two foreign nationals,” he said. The BNP leader claimed that they had been in fear that Jatiyatabadi Swechchhasebak Dal president Habib-Un-Nabi Khan Sohel might be subjected to harassment after the arrest of his younger brother and ex-Chittagong Medical College unit JCD president Rashed-Un-Nabi Biplob.Referring to media reports that the Swechchhasebak Dal president will be charged with the murder of Italian citizen Tavella, Ripon said they are getting indication of coming under political attack from the ‘imaginary stories’ published in some national newspapers.”Instead of bringing the perpetrators to book, if any cooked-up story is run by providing false information about any connection with the foreigners’ murders as part of a design to attack the political opponent, it’ll be unfortunate and tantamount to burial of truth,” Ripon observed.
