Protesting the Awami League’s blame against BNP over the knife attack on Professor Dr Muhammed Zafar Iqbal, BNP Senior Joint-Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Monday alleged that Awami League has a strong connection with the stabbing incident.
“A question has arisen in public mind how did a youth dare stab prominent writer Zafar Iqbal on his back and head amid huge security on the university campus and his personal security? How is it possible without state or government backing?” Rizvi questioned.
Speaking at a press briefing at the party’s Nayapaltan central office, he also said, “Who was arrested over the incident has only Awami League’s connection. Awami League’s connection has also become clear with the identity of the attacker. It’s Awami League which can only carry out it.”
Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said incidents of sudden stabbing on Shahjalal University of Science and Technology’s Professor Zafar Iqbal, killing of Baraigram upazila chairman of Natore Nur Hossain Babu with sharp knife by local ‘Chhattra League’ and Jubo League’, and killing of juvenile worker Biswajit by stabbing by ‘Chhatra League’ have the similarity with attempt of killing Zafar Iqbal.
He said people believe that the attempt to kill Zafar Iqbal was for diverting attention of public who got ‘aggrieved’ and protestant’ after Khaleda was sentenced to jail.
He said whole nation was surprised following Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader’s comment that BNP was behind the attack on Zafar Iqbal.
Protesting Quader’s comment, Rizvi said the ruling party general secretary has been making weird and inconstant comments to malign BNP and hush up his party’s misdeeds.
He said it is Awami League’s political tradition to shift blame onto others after carrying out bloody incidents to mislead people. “There’ll be no use of such tactics as people know what is Awami League and what the party can do. You won’t be able to hide the facts.”
About BNP’s programme, he said as human chain in Dhaka part of the party’s countrywide programme would be held in front of National Press Club from 11:00 am to 12:00pm on Tuesday while sit-in in front of BNP central office from 11:00am to 12:00pm on Thursday.
