BNP-backed panel received the majority posts including secretary and six others while the AL-backed panel received 4 posts including president in the annual election 2014 of the 11-member executive committee of Barisal District Bar Association according to the result declared on Friday morning.
Advocate Abul Kalam Azad, convener of the election sub-committee and election commissioner of the association, officially declaring this result on Friday said 693 out of 769 voters cast their vote from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm Thursday and counting started from Thursday evening ended on Friday morning.
Thirty-two candidates in two panel supported by AL led grand alliance backed Sammilito Ainjibi Parishad (SAP) and Jatiotabadi Ainjibi Oyikko Parishad (JAOP) supported by BNP led 19 party alliance contested in the election for the 11 posts of executive body and 5 posts of sub-committees of the election.
Advocate AKM Jahangir (347 votes) elected president from SAP defeating Advocate Mojibor Rahman Nantu (316) votes) of JAOP and Advocate Mohsin Montu (390 votes) from JAOP elected general secretary defeating Advocate Delwar Hossain Dilu (289) of SAP.
The other elected office bearers are: Advocate ABM Fakuruddin (SAP)
and Advocate Parvin Aktear Baby (JSOP), vice presidents, Advocate
Mirza Riaz Hossain (JAOP), finance secretary, Advocate Moinul Islam
Babul (SAP), Advocate Sahanur Khanam (JAOP), joint secretaries,
Advocate Zahir Hossain Liton, Zahidul Islam Panna and Beauty Sultana
(JAOP) and Advocate Shamsuzzaman Sohel (SAP) elected members of the
11-member executive committee of the association.
On the other hand Advocate Obaidullah Saju, Advocate Firoz Mahmud,
Advocate Uzzal Kumar Roy(SAP) and Advocate Sheikh Humaun Kabir Masud
(JAOP) elected as members of election sub committee and result of
another post of vigilance sub- committee postponed due to dispute in
counting.##
