Staff Reporter :Police arrested BNP-sponsored councillor candidate of ward no-11 in Dhaka North City Corporation Kawsar Ahmed in Mirpur on Thursday night.Police said he was accused in five cases filed over acts of sabotage.A team of Mirpur Model Police Station arrested him when he was conducting campaign at Modhya Paikpara area. When contacted, Officer-in Charge of Mirpur Model Police Station Salahuddin Ahmed Khan said, “There are five cases against Kawsar Ahmed. Police have already submitted charge sheets in every case.” Yesterday’s arrest is the first after campaigns for the April 28 polls to Dhaka and Chittagong city corporations started.Dhaka Metropolitan Police earlier said they would arrest city polls candidates, accused in cases, if they do not secure bail. Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad has directed police not to harass candidates without reason but not to spare anyone violating the law.
