Some supporters of BNP backed candidate of Munshiganj Sadar Upazila election were injured in an attack by supporters of ruling party backed candidate at Mahakhali in Sadar Upazila on Wednesday morning. Those injured included UP chairman Sona Mia Bepari. He was seriously injured and admitted to Munshiganj general hospital. BNP backed candidate blamed the supporters of the ruling party backed candidate for the attack. In another incident in Khulna Upazila chairman candidate of Rupsha was arrested by members of law enforcing agencies on Wednesday afternoon. He is reportedly a local BNP leader and a rebel candidate. Details of the incident, could not be immediately known. Reports of clashes among supporters of rival candidates of both parties were reaching the city from different parts of the country till the time of filing the report at 9 PM on Wednesday. Meanwhile, four persons including two AL leaders, were wounded in a gun fight at Benapole on the night of February 24 over internal feud of AL on the eve of upazila election of Sharsha.Our Jessore Correspondent, adds: Unidentified miscreants attacked the motorcade of Sheikh Afil Uddin, a lawmaker elected from Jessore -1 on Wednesday noon.The motorcade came under attack at Jhikargachha on Jessore-Benapole Road on its way to Sharsha, said AL sources.Sheikh Afil Uddin told journalists that a number of terrorists attacked his motorcade while he was coming towards Benapole on Wednesday. But he escaped unhurt as the driver fled the scene quickly. Later he took shelter at Sharsha police station.The Awami League held a protest rally at Sharsha Bazar after the incident. Sirajul Haque Manju, president, Sharsha upazila unit Awami League chaired the rally, which was addressed, among others, by Nuruzzaman, general secretary and Sohrab Hossain, president, Sharsha upazila unit Juba League.Speakers at the rally have demanded arrest and exemplary punishment of those responsible for the attack.
