Staff Reporter :
The BNP on Sunday asked the government to restore neutral caretaker government system in the Constitution for holding free, fair and inclusive election.
“The Awami League government cannot overlook the necessity of the fair polls. It must restore polls time neutral caretaker government system in the Constitution to hold an inclusive and acceptable election,” said BNP Senior Joint-Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi in a press briefing at the party’s Nayapaltan central office in the capital.
He said that the ruling Awami League General Secretary on Saturday said that the coming national election would be held according to the Constitution. We do think so, but that after restoring the caretaker government system.
Rizvi said, “AL has scrapped the caretaker government system by rescinding the 13th amendment of the Constitution for staying in power forever. And now they are referring to the Constitution to hold one sided polls. But it will not be possible again.”
The way the government chose to drop the caretaker government system from the Constitution; that can be done to bring the system in the interest of the people’s right to franchise.
BNP Joint-Secretary General Khairul Kabir Khokon, Organizing Secretary Ruhul Kuddus Talukdar Dulu, Volunteer Affairs Secretary Mir Sarafat Ali Sopu and Assistant Office Secretary Munir Hossain, among others, were present on the occasion.
