The BNP-led 20-party has postponed its today’s (Saturday) pre-scheduled human chain programme marking ‘International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances’ in the capital. The BNP alliance will suppose to form a human chain in front of the National Press Club in the day. The BNP alliance will, however, observe its programme in all other cities and district towns today. On August 25, BNP Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi announced that the BNP-led 20-party alliance would stage demonstrations across the country, protesting the government move to empower the parliament to impeach the Supreme Court judges. As part of its announcement, the alliance declared to observe the United Nation’s International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearance on August 30, forming human chains across the country, including in front of the National Press Club in the capital. Sources in BNP said the BNP leaders attributed the postponement of the programme as it failed to get the police permission to hold it. Party insiders said the decision was taken to avoid any trouble as Awami League is going to hold a rally in the city the same day.
