BN to provide 60 rescue boats to Disaster Management Directorate

Bangladesh Navy (BN) from its Narayanganj dockyard would provide 60 multipurpose accessible rescue boats to Disaster Management Directorate.
The BN would provide 20 boats each year and 60 boats would be provided by three years, while around Taka 45 lakh would cost for making a boat, said an ISPR press release.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed recently in this regard at the conference hall of Disaster Management and Relief Ministry. State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief Dr Md Enamur Rahman was present on the occasion as the chief guest. Dr Rahman said the boats would be used for ferrying people, domestic animals and birds, and other important goods of flood-hit areas.
There will have special arrangements to transfer women, children and special persons, he added.
Each boat would contain a wheelchair, a stretcher, a walking frame, two separate toilets. Each boat would be able to carry 80 persons excluding domestic animals and other essential goods. Director General of Department of Disaster Md Atiqul Huq and Managing Director of Narayanganj Dockyard Commodore Akhter Hossain signed the agreement on their respective agency. Chairman of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Shipping Captain (retd) AB Tajul Islam and Shipping Secretary M Mohsin were also present.
