BN takes steps to produce ENC for settlement of maritime boundary : Navy Chief

Chief of Bangladesh Navy Vice- Admiral Nizamuddin Ahmed, NDC, PSC, said here yesterday the Navy in the contest of worldwide technological advancement has taken steps to produce Electronic Navigational Charts (ENC) after peaceful settlement of Bangladesh maritime boundaries with the neighbours.
“With this the new opportunities of Blue economy has opened up and such hydrographic works are the most fundamental to develop and sustain blue economy,” the Navy chief said while inaugurating the three- day long 16th Conference of North Indian Ocean Hydrographic Commission-2016, at Radisson Blu.
Organised by Bangladesh Navy (BN), the inaugural function was presided over by the Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Operations) and NIOHC Chief Rear Admiral M Mukbul Hossain. Director General of International Hydrographic Bureau (IHBU) Mustafa Iftech was among others to address the function.
Chief guest Vice- Admiral Nizam Uddin said under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Bangladesh has settled one lakh 18 thousand and 813 square Km maritime boundary and it has been striving for marine resources.
“BN will actively participate in exploring marine resources in near future which would immensely contribute in the national economy of the country,” he asserted.
The Navy chief Said it is well known that two thirds of the world is sea and about 90 percent of the world trade is done through sea routes, and Hydrographic ensures safe navigation for ship in the sea.
Nizamuddin said Hydrographic also plays a vital role in exploration of Oil and Gas installation of sea port, dredging, oceanographic research and all other maritime activities.
He said BN has already published international standard charts, which are well accepted by the mariners across the globe.
The chief guest said BN Charts will contribute greatly in sea borne trade of the country ensuring safe passage in the Bay of Bengal.
Delegates from the member countries; Bangladesh, Egypt, India, Myanmar, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Thailand, UK and associate member states, Australia, France, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Seychelles, USA are attending the conference. Russia and Sudan are joining the conference as observers.
A number of Hydrographic related international organizations are also
attending the conference.
High civil and military officials and diplomats attended the opening ceremony.
