A Bangladesh Navy (BN) contingent overnight flew to Lebanon to replace an existing detachment of theirs as part of UN peacekeeping mission in the troubled Western Asian country, an ISPR statement said on Tuesday.
It said the 80-men contingent would join BN Ship ‘Bijoy’. Earlier, the first team comprising 30-members left for Lebanon on July 8. The statement said senior BN officials saw the contingent off at the Shah Amanat International Airport, Chittagong offering a special munajat last night while an UN-chartered aircraft carried them to Lebanon, the scene of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL). MINUSMA was established under a UN Security Council resolution in March 1078 to support political processes in that country and carry out a number of security-related tasks.
The mission was asked to restore international peace and security, and help the government of Lebanon restore its effective authority in the area.
