Officials and employees of the Barind Multipurpose Development Authority (BMDA) office at Panchbibi in Joypurhat have been working in an abandoned risky building for a long time at the risk of their lives.
It is learned that the two-storey quarry was constructed in 1975 for the office of Bangladesh Agriculture Development Corporation (BADC). Offices of BADC and BMDA officers and employees on the ground floor of the building.
Upazila BADC and BMDA officials and employees are carrying out office activities at the risk of their lives. It can be seen that there are cracks in different places of the office, bricks have fallen somewhere, it is difficult to say how many years ago the building was painted. After the rain water flows down the roof and wall, it is completely covered with moss.
BMDA District Executive Engineer Al-Mamunur Rashid said water was supplied to thousands of acres of land in the upazila through 61 deep dip tubewells. On the other hand, in areas where the water level is very deep, water is being supplied to the Rabi crop lands by installing 5 solar powered wells for supplying potable water to hundreds of rural people from 11 deep dips through pipelines.
He further said that the necessary documents of the office were wasted in the rain water. BADC official Firoz Alam said the authorities had been informed long ago to repair the building but no work had been done so far. Upazila Chairman Monirul Shahid Munna said the matter would be informed in writing.
