A total of 188 cadets emerged on Wednesday as new military officers of Bangladesh Army following their ceremonial passing out parade at BMA on the outskirts of the port city of Chattogram, an ISPR statement said.
According to the Inter Service Public Relations (ISPR) directorate statement, Qatar’s Armed Forces chief Lieutenant General (pilot) Salem Hamad Al-Akil Al-Nabet joined as the chief guest the event, which also witnessed commissioning of eight foreigners – seven Palestinians and one Sri Lankan, reports BSS.
The foreigners are now set to join armies of their respective countries.
Battalion Senior Under Officer Md. Tanvir Rahim was considered the course’s best cadet and won the prestigious Sword of Honor and simultaneously the Army Chief Gold Medal for excellence in military matters.
“The cadets were (also) administered the oath of office” as part of the ceremony, the ISPR statement said.
Called as President Parade, the event was staged at Bangladesh Military Academy’s parade ground at Bhatiari of Chattogram when the just commissioned officers received trophies from the chief guest.
“Today, on this auspicious occasion, I reverently remember the dreamer of independent Bangladesh, the greatest Bengali of all time, the architect of Bangladesh Armed Forces, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman,” Nabet said.
He said the Bengali nation achieved an independent sovereign state, as millions sacrificed their blood, responding to the call of their Father of the Nation.
“Through Bangabandhu’s wisdom, strong morale, infinite courage and undisputed leadership, the Bengali nation achieved the ever-desired independence,” he said.
The Qatar’s armed forces chief also paid tributes to the 1952 martyrs alongside the “patriotic souls who sacrificed their lives in the glorious War of Liberation”.
“I also do remember with deep respect the fearless heroic martyrs of Bangladesh Armed Forces who laid down their invaluable lives in all post-independence expeditions at home and abroad,” Nabet said.
He said their sacrifices would always serve as a source of inspiration for the members of today’s Bangladesh armed forces to protect the independence and sovereignty of their motherland.
“I pray to Almighty for the eternal peace of those great souls,” he said.
The ISPR said the parents, guardians of the officers and invited guests decorated the new officers with rank insignia, marking their commissioning after three years of rigorous military training.
“He (Nabet) reviewed the smartly turned-out parade and took the salute at the march past,” it said.
The newly commissioned officers group comprised 180 males and 16 females.
