Bert Pronk, Chairman of the company presided over the conference while Andre Hendriks and Mustafizur Rahman, Managing Directors of the company were present and gave welcome speech.
General Manager Firoz Ahmed described the detail plan of the company.
“We are preparing 3 different sizes as 12, 33 and 45kg gas filled cylinder which will be marketed from 30th May”, said Mustafizur Rahman, Managing Director of the company.
A Bangladesh-Netherlands joint venture (JV) company, BM Energy set up one of the country’s largest liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) bottling plant in Chittagong, he further said.
Now Bangladesh has a demand for LPG ranging between 300,000 tonnes and 500,000 tonnes per annum. But the current actual consumption is around 100,000 tonnes. The demand for LPG is surging day by day in the country mainly due to scarcity of piped natural gas connections to household users. Besides household users, a good number of small commercial entities, like restaurants, are also using LPG, he added.
This is the country’s eighth LPG plant. It is procuring its equipment from Belgium, France, Korea and Denmark.
The company is importing raw materials for the project from oil-rich Qatar and other Middle Eastern countries. The mother vessel will anchor at the outer anchorage area of Chittagong port and it will discharge the materials through a floating mooring system to reach main plant at Barabkunda, he informed.
“We’ll establish two kilometres undersea pipeline between floating terminal and on-shore plant at Barabkunda to ensure uninterrupted supply,” he further added.
The plant has a 3000 MT storage capacity yet which will be increased to 9000MT within very short period, Bert Pronk.
The plant is of European origin with the latest computer controlled digital technology, which would ensure 100 percent accurate and safe operations, the chairman informed.
We have developed leak testing; filling and weight check system in plant for every cylinder to ensure safety and right weight, he further informred.
Apart from two units of government-owned companies, Cleanheat LP Gas, Premier LP Gas, Summit LP Gas, Bashundhara Gas, and Jamuna Spacetech Gas are in operation in the country.
The combined capacity of the above plants is around 200,000 tonnes but they supply around 100,000 tonnes a year.
In the meantime, international oil company Chevron has also shown its interest to set up an LPG pant in the country.
