BLWF’s fund deposit exceeds Tk 300 cr

The deposit of Bangladesh Labour Welfare Foundation (BLWF) under the Labour and Employment Ministry has exceeded Taka 300 crore, said an official release here on Sunday.
State Minister for Labour and Employment M Mujibul Haq said this while receiving a cheque, donated by the Singenta Bangladesh Limited at the BLWF’s fund at the Secretariat here.
Of the deposited amount of Taka 350 crore, the state minister said Taka 323 crore is being deposited under FDR, adding that Taka 2 crore is deposited as cash at the fund.
So far, Haq said Taka 25 crore has been spent for the welfare of the labourers.
A three-member team led by Singenta Bangladesh Limited’s Managing Director AMM Golam Towhid handed over a cheque for Taka 23,40,656, one-tenth of its total benefit of the last one year, to the state minister.
The Singenta has been donating its benefit to the Bangladesh Labour Welfare Foundation fund since 2013.
As per the labour law, there is a provision to deposit one-tenth of the total deposit of a company to the labour welfare foundation fund.
A total of 122 local, foreign and multi-national companies so far have donated financial aid at the fund.
Director General of Bangladesh Labour Welfare Foundation Dr Anisul Awal, Company Secretary and Head of Finance of the Singenta Bangladesh Limited M Moshiur Rahman were present at the function.
