UNFORTUNATELY, like many other sectors, the country’s ‘education sector’ could not be saved. Because the government is the driving force behind corruption in all sectors of the government. The reality is public money in government care is being looted and the people are getting no benefits. To the government leaders like the people’s vote the people’s needs do not count. The government has no money to help people during this big crisis of pandemic. Foreign countries are reluctant to come to aid of needy people for their knowledge that the money would not go to the proper people.
A massive fraud of around Tk 480 crore has been detected by ten special intelligence teams in a priority project under the ministry of education for the establishment of 10 new government high schools in surrounding areas of Dhaka city and its adjacent districts.
A press news claimed a strong syndicate in the project has become desperate to increase the cost of the project and thus has shown the price of a single banyan tree at Tk 4 crore and a coconut tree near about Tk 1 crore. In addition, the compensation price of a tin-shed structure in the site has been shown at Tk 2 crore. But Dr. Amirul Islam, the project director, is still mysteriously holding his chair and not suspended for taking action against him. We, ourselves, are not in demanding punishment. The first reason is corruption is so connected that we cannot be sure the right persons will be punished. There will be more corruption in process of trial.
Corruption is oxygen for this government. The system of systematic corruption must be uprooted. Still it is our duty as pressmen to dispense information to people in the hope that some honest people will take up the matter as whole for saving the education from the clutches of enemies of education and enemies of good of the country.
We are hurt that corruption is corrupting education to produce wrongly educated younger generation with no character and no patriotism. The worst harm anybody can do is to destroy the hope of a better future.
