Blue Panel wins DU Dean polls

The pro-Awami League and the left oriented teachers under the cover of the ‘Blue Panel’ swept the Dhaka University Dean election held on Thursday.
The Blue panel won eight posts jubilantly. On the other hand, the BNP and Jamaat-i-Islami backed ‘white Panel’ could annex two posts only.
Dhaka University Treasurer and Election Commissioner Professor Kamal Uddin announced the election results at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban around 3.00pm.
A total of 1115 teachers out of 1256 exercised their franchise peacefully from 10 am to 2 pm. The polling center was Nawab Nabab Ali Chowdhury Senate Building.
The elected candidates from the Blue panel are Professor Mohammad Aktaruzzaman at the Arts Faculty, Professor Farid Uddin Ahmed at the Social Science Faculty, Abdul Aziz at the Science Faculty, Professor Shibly Rubayatul Islam at the Business Faculty, Professor Emdadul Hoque at the Biology Faculty, Professor Nisar Hossen at the Fine Arts, Professor ASM Maksud Kamal at the Earth and Environmental Science Faculty and Professor Rafiqual Islam at the Engineering and Technology faculty Elected white panel candidates are Professor Sayful Islam at the Pharmacy faculty and Taslima Mansur at the Law faculty.
 Professor ASM Maksud Kamal was elected unopposed, as the White panel did not file any candidate against him.
Election Commissioner Professor Kamal Uddin said that the election was held peacefully. No untoward incident took place nor any candidate accused his rival of rigging in the election.
Social Science Faculty Professor Farid Uddin Ahmed said that the teacher community of the Dhaka University was satisfied with our past performance. We worked for a peaceful academic atmosphere on the Dhaka University campus and tried our level best to rebuild the university of the world standard. That is why, we believe, the teachers took the right decision in electing us.
