Blue economy cell launched for maritime resources

The government formally launched a cell called “Blue Economy Cell” to coordinate efforts to explore resources in the country’s maritime areas in the Bay of Bengal.
Launching the new cell as the chief guest at a ceremony held on Thursday. State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid urged all officials of the blue economy cell to expedite all activities aimed at proper exploration management of the resources in the maritime areas.
The Blue Economy Cell was established on the 8th floor of the Petrobangla Building at Karwan Bazar in the city.
Nasrul Hamid directed all concerned to take initiatives to procure a vessel within two or three months for conducting survey in the sea.
Engineer G Fakhruddin Ahmed Chowdhury, Additional Secretary, would head the 25-member cell. The cell would coordinate all activities of the country’s blue economy while the Prime Minister’s Office would monitor it.
Nasrul Hamid said all the development projects would have to make visible successes within next six months in the energy sector.
The Blue Economy Cell Chief Engineer G Fakhruddin Ahmed Chowdhury said that the cell will play a coordinating role among ten ministries for management of the country’s maritime resources.
Among others, Energy and Mineral Resources Division Secretary Nazimuddin Chowdhury, Petrobangla Chairman Abu Mansur M Faizullah and officials concerned were present in the inaugural ceremony of the Blue Economy Cell.
