Finance Minister A M A Muhith yesterday said the ongoing blockade and hartal is destroying the “country’s potentiality”.
“Not only budget, all activities will be affected by the ongoing blockade and hartal. People are sitting idle and all kinds of work are remaining shut . . . how could the country be developed? It’s totally destroying the potentially of the country,” he added.
The finance minister passed the remarks while commenting about the possible impact on the money supply during the blockade and hartal. He talked to the media after a meeting with the representative of Human Development Foundation at his secretariat office.
Replying to a query about the possibility of GDP growth target revision due to the ongoing situation, Muhith said: “Budget and Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth target may need to be revised.”
The finance minister added budget implementation report on the second quarter of the current fiscal would be placed in the ongoing session of parliament within 2/3 days. “Then, the review on the overall aspects of the current budget would be started,” said the minister.
Commenting on his previous remark “Situation would be normal within 7 days”, the finance minister said: “It was an expectation. BNP is a sensible political party and they should announce any kind of activity considering the losses of country. But, they are not doing that.
He also added “Begum Khaleda Zia is not the only leader of the country. Other leaders should force Khaleda Zia to get BNP out of the course.”
