Police have shot a leader of the Swechchhasebak Dal after the ancestral house of the Leader of the Opposition in Parliament, Raushon Ershad, came under a bomb attack in Mymensingh during a BNP-led blockade.
The injured has been identified as Nur Uz Zaman, a local leader of the BNP’s volunteer wing.
He and some other people hurled two bombs at the police on duty in front of the house at around 1am on Sunday, Kotwali police OC Abu Mohammad Fazlul Karim said.
The police personnel fired when one of the bombs burst, he said.
Zaman was admitted to the Mymensingh Medical College and Hospital, Karim said.
Police were trying to arrest the others involved in the attack, he added.
The BNP-Jamaat-e-Islami coalition has been enforcing a violent transport blockade for over one and a half month, demanding snap polls under a neutral caretaker government.
At least 57 people have been burnt alive in firebomb attacks on public vehicles during the blockade. Hundreds others also have received burn injuries.
Raushon has urged BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia to ‘come back to politics meant for people’s welfare’.
