Labourers while engaged in re-excavation of an old pond recovered a black stone made antique statue from Kasemabad area of Ward No-9 under Gournadi municipality in Barisal on Saturday noon. Police later took the 27-inch tall and 16-inch wide 47 Kilograms weighed statue under their custody and lodging a general diary informed higher authourity, said Abul Kalam, Gournadi police station officer in charge. Wahid Haoladar of the area said labourers were re-excavating a pond on the land of Jelal Haoladar since last few days. At about 1:15 Pm Saturday noon spades of a labour Shahin Sardar bounced after hitting a hard material. Then thinking existences of hidden treasures they removing the earths surrounding the spot, found the statue and people rushed there to visit that. From the preliminary appearance of the statue it was assumed by local people as the ancient statue of Buddha engrossed in meditation and visited by his followers and made with touch-stone.
Imam killed in road crash in Jhenidah

An imam was killed in a road crash at Kakladari Bus Stand on Kaligonj-Jibonnagor Road under Moheshpur upazila in Jhenidah on Saturday morning. The deceased was identified as Zoynal Abadin, 68 son of late Israil Hossain of Kakladari village of the upazila. He was an Imam of Kakladari village mosque. Officer in charge (OC) Shahajan Ali of Moheshpur police station said, on Saturday morning at around 10:00 am a Jibonnagor bound speedy passenger bus ran over an Imam at Kakladari bus stand while he was crossing the road and leaving him died on the spot. On information police reached the spot and recovered the body and sent to Jhenidah sadar hospital for an autopsy.
Training on investigative journalism begins

A two-day investigative journalism training programme began at Shahjalal University of Science & Technology (SUST) yesterday. Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) organised the programme. A total of 35 reporters took part in the training programme. Prof Dr Tulsi Kumar Das of the department of Social Work of SUST and Senior Programme Manager of out rich and communication of TIB Sajjad Hossen addressed the inaugural session of the training programme. The programme was addressed, among others, by Associate Professor of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication of Rajshahi University Dr Pradip Kumar Pande, Assistant Prof of Dhaka University Saiful Alam Chowdhury, Special Correspondent of ATN News Mashhudul Haque. The training programme will be ended today after distributing certificate among the participants.
