UNB, Dhaka :
Renowned economist and Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF) chairman Qazi Kholiquzzaman Ahmad on Sunday strongly supported the decision of the Finance Minister to keep no provision of whitening black money in the upcoming budget for fiscal year 2014-15.
“Such provision of whitening black money creates scope for more black money generation and I had been speaking against this provision for long,” he said while addressing a function at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC).
The programme was organised as part of a year-long ‘Silver Jubilee Celebration’ programme of PKSF. Finance Minister AMA Muhith was present at the function as the chief guest.
The PKSF chairman also extended his thanks to the Finance Minister for taking such a bold decision.
On May 8, Muhith said there would be no provision of whitening black money in the upcoming budget for fiscal 2014-15. “There’ll be no scope in the next budget to whiten black money,” he had told a pre-budget discussion meeting at a city hotel.
Some Tk 13,808 crore was whitened between fiscal 1971-72 and fiscal 2012-13, with the National Board of Revenue (NBR) receiving taxes of Tk 1,455 crore during the period, which is just around 1 percent of this year’s collection target.
