Five new national records were set on the first day when the last report came this evening and Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Prothistan (BKSP) dominated the medal tally in the Cotton Group 30th National
Age Group Swimming competition that began on Monday at the Syed Nazrul Islam Swimming Complex at Mirpur.
On the first day of boys’ events, Ariful Islam of BKSP set the new national record in the boys’ (18-20) 200m free style event with a time of 02:06.42 after eclipsing the previous mark of 02:06.50 created by Polash Chowdhury of the same team.
Zahidul Islam of BKSP created the new national record in the boys’ (13-14) 200m free style with a time of 02:13.12 after bettering the previous record of 02:15.22 set by Niyamul Haque.
Nayan Ali of Bogra Swimming Club set the new national mark in the boys’ (13-14) 200m individual medley with a time 02:29.31 after surpassing the previous record of Niyamul Haque of Bangladesh Ansar.
In the girls’ event, Morium Khatun of Bogra Swimming Club created the new national mark in the girls’ (18-20) 200m butterfly with a time of 02:54.61 after breaking the previous record of 2:59.44 set by Laboni Akter Jui.
Mukti Khatun of Bangladesh Ansar set the new national record in the girls’ (11-12) 100m breast stroke with a time of 01:27.60 after eclipsing the previous mark of 01:32.02 create by Mukti Khatun.
After end of the first day, BKSP dominated the medal tally with 24 gold medals while Bangladesh Ansar and Bogra Swimming Club secured 4 gold medals each.
Earlier, Bangladesh Navy chief and Swimming Federation (BSF) president Vice Admiral Muhammad M Farid Habib formally inaugurated the three-day meet as the chief guest. Cotton Group chairman Shaheen Mahmud was present there as special guest.
