Mehedi Hasan Tapu’s late struck helped Team BJMC move semis in the Federation Cup football tournament with a solitary goal victory over Muktijoddha Sangsad KC in a quarterfinal at Bangabandhu National Stadium on Monday.
BJMC will play the first semifinal against Arambagh Krira Sagnha on Thursday at the same venue.
Arambagh confirmed the semis upsetting the last edition champion Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club in a sudden death 2(5)-2(4) in the first quarterfinal last Friday.
In the day’s match, forward Tapu scored the match winner for BJMC in the in the 90th minute by a header from the middle of the box off a curved corner pass of midfielder Abdullah Parvez from the right flag, 1-0.
Muktijoddha spoiled an opportunity in the very 5th minute, but BJMC goalie Arifuzzaman Himel cleared the fisting away off a left footer of forward Towhidul Alam Towhid.
BJMC missed a chance to move ahead in the 82nd minute. Samson Illiasu took a placing shot on a cross of forward Shaikat Mahmud, goalie Mamun Khan cleared the attempt punching the ball.
However, in another semifinal of the tournament, Abahani will face Sheikh Russel Krira chakra on Friday.
