Bangladesh Jute Mills Corporation (BJMC) clinched title of the EXIM Bank 27th National Women’s Handball championship when they dumped Bangladesh Ansar by 27-9 goals in the final held on Wednesday at Shaheed Captain M Mansur Ali Handball Stadium.
The winners were in impressive form as they dominated the first period of play to take a healthy 12- 4 goal lead at the breather. BJMC continued their pressure in the second half too to add 15 goals to their goal tally while their insipid opponent could score five goals.
In the day’s final, Sumi Begam and Falguni Biswas were the highest scorers with six goals each while Shilpy supported them with five goals for the winners. Moyna scored three goals for the losers.
Shilpi Begam of the champions was name the player of the match for her impressive performance in the match.
Besides in the day’s place-deciding match, Bangladesh Police Handball Club finished third in the championship beating Dhaka district by 30-11 goals held at the same venue.
Health Minister Mohammed Nasim, MP was the chief guest in the final and distributed the prizes among the winners.
Bangladesh Handball Federation (BHF) vice president Hasan Ullah Khan, BHF general secretary Asaduzzaman Kohinoor, BHF assistant general secretary M Nurul Islam, BHF executive members and organizing committee’s secretary M Salahuddin Ahmed and other BHF officials were present on the occasion.
Earlier, on way to the final, BJMC beat Dhaka district by 32-8 goals after leading the first half by 16-4 goals in the first semi-final while Bangladesh Ansar edged past Bangladesh Police Handball Club by 26-24 goals after dominating the first half by 14-10 goals in the second semi.
