Staff Reporter :US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia Nisha Desai Biswal on Tuesday termed her two-day visit to Bangladesh as an ‘important’ one, saying discussion on security cooperation with the country’s leadership was in a very broad way.”Concluding an important visit to Bangladesh. I conveyed support & solidarity of the United States to stand with Bangladesh in combating terrorism,” Biswal tweeted after ending her two days visit in Dhaka on yesterday. Apart from this, in her four other separate tweets, she said, “I am so proud & honoured to work with @USAmbBangladesh Bernicat and the dedicated team @usembassydhaka who are committed to this partnership.”Besides, Nisha Desai Biswal tweeted that “Made a solemn visit to the site of Holey Bakery to pay respects and honour the victims of this heinous attack.”In another she said “Met with Diplomatic community and Business leaders who are concerned but committed to stand with Bangladesh.” “Discussed with Bangladesh govt specific ways US can support law enforcement & security forces in investigating & responding to terror attacks,” US Assistant Secretary of State also tweeted. In the morning, Nisha Desai Biswal also held meeting with the Editors of different national dailies at the US Ambassador Marcia Bernicat’s residence in Gulshan. In her two days visit she held meeting with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali and Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal. Besides, Biswal also called on Prime Minister’s Security Adviser Major General (retd) Tariq Ahmed Siddique and International Affairs Adviser Dr Gowher Rizvi.Apart from them she also held meeting with Dhaka-based diplomats including the Indian High Commissioner, Canadian High Commissioner Benoît-Pierre Laramée, acting British High Commissioner Mark Clayton and acting Australian High Commissioner Sally-Anne Vincentand, to discuss security issues.During the visit Nisha Biswal assured Bangladesh of giving full support against terrorism and violent extremism and appreciated the law enforcement agencies’ ongoing efforts to protect US citizens in Bangladesh.She arrived in Dhaka on Sunday morning to discuss security issues with Bangladesh after the deadliest terrorist attack on a Dhaka Café and left Dhaka for Colombo, Sri Lanka at 12:05pm yesterday. Biswal last visited Dhaka on May 5 and 6 this year after the brutal murder of USAID staff Xulhaz Mannan in Dhaka on April 25.
