The 118th birth anniversary of poet Jibanananda Das has been observed at his ancestral city Barisal with day long programs on Saturday.
Participants of the programmes demanded preservation, implementation of the Dhansiri River eco- park project and excavation of Dhansiri River, establishing museum, memorials and sculptures of the poet in places connected with his life, works and memories. They also stressed for more study and research on life, works, ideology and influence of the poet on Bangla language and literature.
On Saturday morning activists of Jatiya Kabita Parishad Barisal branch , a literary ogranisation, put floral tribute on the alter of the portrait of the poet at Poet Jibanananda memorial hall constructed at a part of his parental home on Kabi Jibanananda Das Sarak in the city. Tapankar Chakraborty, Kazi Selina, Papia Jesmin, Partha Sarathi and Suvash Chandra Das of JKP attended at the programme of putting flower wrath at the portrait of the poet.
Besides a three-day long Jibanananda Mela ended on Saturday at Govt. B M College campus.
It was organized by Uttoron Sangskritik Sangathan of the college.
Discussion on life and achievement of the poet, his influence on Bangla language and literature, recitation of poems, essay writing and painting competition also held at the fair.
It was inaugurated on Thursday by Sahanara Abdullah, a cultural personality.
