Dr. Shri Biren Sikder, state minister for Ministry of Youth and Sports, has recently visited the Consulate General of Bangladesh in New York.
Md Shameem Ahsan, ndc, Consul General of Bangladesh in New York and other officials welcomed the junior minister on January 28. A good number of community leaders associated with sports and youth development, including leaders of New York-based Bangladesh Sports Council of America and Bangladesh Sports Foundation, were present at the Consulate and interacted with him.
In his remarks, the state minister briefed as to how Bangladesh is making impressive progress in the field of sports, nationally and internationally, under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
He narrated the initiatives and steps taken by the present government to bring qualitative changes in the sector which has already received international attention.
Each upazila will have one stadium and to make it materialise, 110 stadiums have been completed so far and the government plans to open a university on sports in near future, Dr. Sikder added.
The community leaders appreciated the laudable progress made in the country and shared as to how they are engaging the diaspora in the field of sports in New York, in particular.
